Sunny started Treaty Oak Psychotherapy over 30 years ago and works with individuals, couples and families. She is an expert in the areas of attachment, family therapy and the emotional repercussions of trauma. Prior to working in private practice, Sunny worked in the hospital and educational settings. A graduate of The University of Texas and The Fielding Institute, Sunny has trained for decades in the latest approaches to health and well being including EMDR, Systems Centered Therapy and Somatic Experiencing. In addition to her work at Treaty Oak Psychotherapy, Sunny serves as a professor of human development and Trauma and Crisis Management at the St Edward’s University Masters of Counseling program.

CINDY PEARSON GARCIA, LPC-ASSOCIATE

Cindy brings a compassionate approach to her work with clients and recognizes the therapeutic relationship as one of the most essential components in therapy. She works with clients in all phases of life including teens, adults, and elderly; seeing clients individually, as couples, or families. A Mindfulness focus is foundational in her own life and therapeutic approach and she also utilizes modalities such as Solution Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy. She can assist with challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, relationship problems, working through childhood issues, transitions in life, self-concept development, and existential concerns.
She also collaborates with a local physician offering in-home counseling to elderly/home bound patients with focus on aging, coping with health issues and disabilities, and end of life concerns; as well as offering counseling for caregivers and/or families in this setting.

KRISTIN ARMSTRONG, LPC-ASSOCIATE

Kristin brings compassion, inspiration, hope, and humor to her work with adult and adolescent clients. She understands that women face challenges with roles, responsibilities, balance, identity shifts, and life’s transition zones. Her work with individual clients includes areas such as relationships, spirituality, career, motherhood, marriage, divorce, co-parenting, step-parenting, empty-nesting, grief, anxiety, depression, and finding or rekindling passion and purpose. Being a writer in addition to a therapist, Kristin helps clients find their authentic voice and change the stories they tell themselves and others. Kristin is trained in EMDR which can be integrated into sessions to help clients get “unstuck” and clear out the debris of old traumas, defeating patterns, and beliefs that no longer resonate.

JEF PAGE, LPC - ASSOCIATE

Jef believes that therapy should be a supportive, collaborative and challenging experience of self-discovery and self-acceptance where all emotions, ideas and issues can be explored and new patterns can unfold.
Primarily working with adults, Jef specializes in working with individuals who may have had difficult childhoods and are wondering how their past experiences may be contributing to their current struggles, conflicts, indecision, stagnation or chaos. He also leads adult interpersonal processing groups for individuals curious about experiencing the multitudinous benefits of group therapy.
Jef incorporates various modalities into his work including Existential therapy, Emotion-Focused therapy, and incorporates his training in Hakomi Mindfulness-Centered Somatic Psychotherapy, Coherence Therapy, Adlerian therapy and modern psychoanalytics. In addition, he has been influenced by such theorist-philosophers as: Janina Fisher, Iain McGilchrist, Ron Kurtz, Gregory Bateson, and Alan Watts.
In addition to counseling, Jef also has an educational background and holds degrees in Ecology, as well as Chinese Language and Culture and has past career experience as a licensed massage therapist and martial arts instructor.

JOEY SORENSON, LPC - ASSOCIATE, NCC

Joey collaborates with emerging and young adults in their 20s-40s working on issues related to career and professional fulfillment, meaning and purpose, burn-out, anxiety, depression, and relationships. Holding a Master’s degree in Counseling from St. Edward’s University, Joey works with clients from a dynamic, practical, action-oriented, solution-focused, and cognitive-behavioral perspective. He is currently in the process of pursuing certification as a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist through the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania.
Joey has experience working with clients specifically focused on finding a fulfilling career path, transitioning professional roles, reigniting passion in work and relationships, and overcoming anxiety and depression through a multi-pronged approach of cognitive and lifestyle changes. Prior to undertaking his own career transition into counseling, Joey’s previous background was in business-to-business software sales, and he also has experience working in information technology, K12 education, and media.
Some thinkers and theorists whose work has particularly inspired Joey and informs his work includes the cognitive-behavioral theorists Aaron Beck and Albert Ellis, Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg’s solution-focused brief therapy, therapeutic lifestyle change in the work of Stephen S. Ilardi, John Bowlby’s attachment theory, Sue Johnson’s emotionally-focused therapy, and the psychodynamic theories of Erik Erikson, Alfred Adler, Carl Jung, and Sigmund Freud. In career-related issues specifically, Joey has found John Holland’s theory of vocational personalities and John Krumboltz’s happenstance learning theory particularly helpful for clients seeking renewed professional vitality and fulfillment.
